A fictional HBO promo for John Leguizamo’s legendary 1997 spoken-word, comedy special “Freak”. (Nov. 10, 2009)

About:

A fictional HBO promo for John Leguizamo’s legendary 1997 spoken-word, comedy special “Freak”. This filmed adaptation of his stage play explores John’s coming up as a youth in Queens, New York. Comic influences ranging from the physicality of the rubber-boned, Robin Williams to the acerbic wit of the late great Richard Pryor are evident in this classic, high energy special.

Production Notes:

This idea sprung out trying to meet the challenge of capturing such a dynamic and outright crazy 90 minute performance. I imagined I was an Avid Editor straight from 1998, bottling up Leguizamo into a tight heart pounding 5:30 minute promo. “Freak” turned 33 this year
